The short answer on sauna delivery
Home saunas and cold plunges move by LTL freight. The carrier brings a 53 foot trailer to the curb, lowers the pallet with a liftgate, and the delivery ends there. Getting the crate up the drive, through the door, and into the room is your job unless you buy an inside delivery upgrade. A 1 to 2 person infrared cabin runs 300 to 450 pounds on the pallet and breaks down into panels two adults can carry. A barrel sauna can hit 1,600 pounds and needs three or four people plus a dolly. Liftgate service is required at almost every residential address because there is no dock to roll the pallet onto. Before you sign the delivery receipt, open the crate, photograph every panel, and write any damage on the receipt. That signature is what a carrier points to when a claim is disputed.
What the checker is doing
Three numbers decide whether delivery day is calm or expensive: pallet weight, largest panel size, and the number of bodies available. The checker maps your item to a typical weight band and the clearance its largest panel needs, compares that clearance to the narrowest doorway you measured, then adjusts the crew size for stairs and for the address type.
The crew number is not guesswork. NIOSH sets the load constant in its lifting equation at 51 pounds under ideal conditions, and real conditions on a staircase with an awkward grip are far from ideal. A 90 pound sauna panel carried up a flight of stairs is a two person lift at minimum, which is why the output pushes toward more help rather than less.
The liftgate answer comes from the address. A truck with a standard trailer cannot set a 500 pound pallet on the ground without one. Loading docks are the only common exception. Order liftgate service when you place the order, because adding it after the shipment is in transit costs more and can delay the appointment by days.

The five things buyers forget
Liftgate service. Residential addresses need it and it is not automatic on every carrier quote. Confirm it in writing.
The appointment call. LTL carriers phone to schedule a window, usually four hours wide, and they will not leave a pallet unattended. Someone over 18 has to be there to sign.
The driveway. A 53 foot trailer cannot turn into a narrow lane, a gravel slope, or a cul de sac with parked cars. Tell the carrier at scheduling so they can send a smaller truck or arrange a nearby meeting point.
Doors and corners. Panels are wide and rigid. Taking a door off its hinges buys three quarters of an inch on each side and is often the difference between fits and does not fit. A 90 degree corner in a narrow hallway is harder than the doorway itself.
The signature. Damage found after you sign a clean receipt becomes a concealed damage claim, which is far harder to win. Federal rules give you at least nine months from delivery to file a written claim and require the carrier to pay, decline, or offer a settlement within 120 days, but your leverage comes from what you wrote on the receipt that day.
Who needs an inside delivery upgrade
Buy the upgrade when any two of these are true: the item is over 500 pounds, there is a full flight of stairs, the path has a tight corner, or you will be alone. Apartment walk-ups above the second floor should assume it. The upgrade usually costs less than a chiropractor visit and far less than a cracked panel that turns into a parts claim.
Skip it when the item is a portable infrared sauna or a blanket, when you have a level path and two adults, or when the unit is going into a garage right off the driveway. Most buyers of our 1 to 2 person infrared saunas for sale handle it themselves with a friend and a furniture dolly.
An outdoor sauna is its own category. Barrel units often stage in the driveway and get assembled on the pad, so the question is less about doorways and more about whether the truck can reach the property and whether the pad is ready before the crate lands. A cold plunge tub is lighter but bulkier than people expect, and the chiller ships as a separate box.

How is a sauna delivered to a house?
By LTL freight on a pallet. The carrier calls to book a four hour window, brings a trailer to the curb, and uses a liftgate to lower the pallet to the ground. Delivery ends at the curb or the end of the driveway unless you pay for inside delivery.
Will the driver bring the sauna inside?
No. Standard freight delivery is curbside only and drivers are not required to carry items into a home. Arrange two or three adults and a furniture dolly, or buy an inside delivery upgrade when you order.
What should I do if the sauna arrives damaged?
Inspect and photograph the crate before you sign, write the damage on the delivery receipt, and do not assemble the unit. Report it the same day. A noted receipt is the strongest evidence in a freight claim, and damage found after a clean signature is much harder to recover.
