Entry home chillers: about $1,000 to $1,800
This is where most home plunges start. The Absolute Zero 0.8HP chiller starts at $999 and cools to 37°F. Its page lists a drop of up to 8°F per hour from 70°F water, a steel housing, a GMCC compressor and a 1-year manufacturer warranty. A Pro version is $1,399. The maker has not published a side-by-side comparison of the two, so ask us before paying for the Pro.
At $1,795, the Ice Bath USA Chiller Pro is a 1HP unit that plugs into a standard 110V outlet, sets from a WiFi app and covers 37°F to 108°F. If you are buying a tub too, its page notes that Ice Bath USA tubs sold with a chiller cost $200 to $300 less than the tub and Chiller Pro bought separately.
Plug-and-play chillers: about $1,500 to $2,100
The Penguin Chillers Outdoor 1/2 HP water chiller is the lowest priced Penguin at $1,499.99. It is a 5,750 BTU/hr general-purpose water chiller in a stainless steel outdoor housing, and it has no built-in pump. Penguin says to plan your own pump, filter, tubing and fittings with at least 250 GPH of flow, so budget for those parts. It suits a custom or DIY plunge.
The Penguin Chillers Cold Therapy Chiller is the ready-to-use option. It starts at $1,949.99 for the chiller alone, with 7,500 BTU/hr of cooling, a built-in pump and quick-connect fittings, and runs from 37°F up to 100°F. Adding the Install & Filter Kit brings it to $2,099.99. Penguin includes 1 year of warranty, and our listing offers a 2-year extension for $184.99 more and a 3-year extension for $284.98 more.
Portable high-capacity chillers: about $6,300 to $20,500
These are built for bigger baths, repeated back-to-back sessions and shared spaces. The iCoolsport Compact Cool is $6,299 and cools one bath of up to 500 L (130 gal) down to 4°C (39°F) with 5,000 W of cooling power. The iCoolsport Turbo Mini is $12,299 with 10 kW of cooling for pools up to 2,000 L (530 gal), and its page lists 220 to 240V single phase power, which means a dedicated 240V circuit installed by a licensed electrician. The Turbo Mini is made to order, and Restore Suite is an authorized iCoolsport dealer.
At the top, the Turbo Typhoon 20 kW chiller for large plunge pools is $19,999 and its dual temp version is $20,499. If you are weighing these against a home unit, our guide on what size cold plunge chiller you need shows how water volume drives the choice.
Commercial water chillers: about $7,300 to $10,000
For gyms, clinics and facilities with several tubs, Penguin offers commercial water chillers. The 2.0 ton unit is $7,274.99 at 24,000 BTU/hr and the 5.0 ton unit is $9,274.99 at 60,000 BTU/hr. Split versions cost $7,774.99 and $10,024.99. See our commercial cold plunges for complete setups, and note these are for business sites rather than a typical home plunge.
The extras that add to the price
The chiller is only part of a plunge budget. Plan for these items before you compare totals:
- Pump, filter and plumbing. Some units include a pump and some do not. Penguin's Install & Filter Kit adds $150 on the Cold Therapy Chiller.
- Electrical. The Ice Bath USA and Penguin units listed here run on 110 to 120V. The iCoolsport Turbo Mini lists 220 to 240V, so budget for a dedicated circuit and an electrician.
- The tub. A chiller needs something to cool. Our cold plunge tubs range from simple tubs to full packages, and DIY versus buying a complete plunge compares the two routes.
- Extended warranty. Optional on Penguin units, as priced above.
- Running cost. Electricity depends on your tub size, water temperature and how often you plunge. Our guide to what a cold plunge costs to run walks through it.

Is a chiller worth the money?
A chiller replaces bagged ice and keeps the water at a steady temperature, which matters if you plunge several times a week. It also keeps water cooler in a warm garage or backyard, where ice melts quickly. If you plunge only now and then, ice may cost less up front. We break that down in do you need a chiller for a cold plunge, and the cold plunge chiller buying guide helps you match a unit to your setup. Cold water immersion is for recovery and routine, not a treatment for any condition. If you have a heart condition or are pregnant, talk with your doctor before cold plunging.
