How to choose a hot tub

1. Size

Our Liberty Spas lineup runs from 4-person (LYS4000) to 5 to 6 person (LYS4500), 6-person (LYS5000, LYS6000) and 7-person (LYS7000). Read what size hot tub do I need.

2. Plug-and-play or 240V

Plug-and-play models (LYS4000, LYS4500) avoid a new circuit; 240V models (LYS5000, LYS6000, LYS7000) need a dedicated circuit and a licensed electrician, and typically heat faster. Compare in plug and play vs 240V.

3. Jets and seating

Jet counts range from 18 to 46. Look at seat layout and whether there is a lounger as well as jet count.

4. Site

  • A level concrete pad or a deck rated for the filled weight.
  • A clear delivery path; delivery is curbside.
  • Room for the cover and service access.

Hot Tubs FAQ

What is a plug and play hot tub?

A plug and play hot tub runs on a standard 120V, 15A outlet instead of a hardwired 240V circuit. Our LYS4500 runs on 120V, and the LYS4000 runs on 120V or 240V. They heat more slowly than 240V tubs, so they suit owners who keep the water at temperature.

What electrical does a 240V hot tub need?

Our 240V Liberty tubs, the LYS5000, LYS6000 and LYS7000, list a 50A circuit. That means a hardwired, GFCI-protected supply with a disconnect near the tub, installed by a licensed electrician. Their 5.5 kW heater warms the water faster than a plug and play tub.

What size hot tub do I need?

Our tubs seat 4 to 7 people and hold about 193 to 317 gallons. Choose by how many people usually soak together, then check the footprint, weight and the delivery path to your spot. Each product page lists dimensions, seating, jets and power.

What base does a hot tub need?

Filled with water and people, a hot tub weighs several thousand pounds, so it needs a flat, level base rated for the load, such as a concrete pad or a deck checked by a contractor. Leave access around the cabinet for service, and keep the electrical disconnect within sight of the tub.

How are hot tubs delivered?

Liberty hot tubs ship free by curbside delivery to the contiguous U.S., so plan for help moving the tub from the curb to its spot. Inspect it at delivery and report any damage within 48 hours. Hot tub sales are final, so confirm size, power and access before you order.
