How to choose a cold plunge chiller
1. Capacity
A chiller has to remove the heat your body, the sun and the air add to the water. Size it to tub volume, target temperature and climate. Use our chiller calculator or read what size chiller do I need.
2. Plunge-ready or general water chiller
Plunge-ready chillers, such as the Penguin Cold Therapy Chiller, include a pump and quick-connect fittings. General water chillers may need a separate pump, tubing and fittings, available in accessories.
3. Chiller only or complete system
If you already have a tub, add a chiller. If you are starting fresh, a tub with a chiller (such as the Beyond Cold Journey, Pursuit or Summit) avoids sizing guesswork.
4. Placement, noise and power
- Chillers need airflow, shade and a level spot. See where to put a chiller.
- Check the outlet or circuit on each listing.

Cold Plunge Chillers FAQ
What size chiller do I need?
Size depends on water volume, your target temperature, the starting water and air temperature, and how well the tub is insulated and covered. A warm garage or sunny patio needs more capacity than a cool basement. Our chiller sizing calculator gives a starting point to compare with each listing.
How cold do these chillers go?
The chillers in this collection list minimum water temperatures from 36°F to 39°F, and dual temperature models can also heat water to about 100°F to 104°F. Real results depend on tub size, insulation, a cover and the air temperature around the chiller.
What power does a cold plunge chiller need?
Many residential chillers here run on a standard 120V outlet, ideally on a dedicated GFCI-protected circuit. Larger commercial chillers need 208 to 240V service sized by an electrician. Each listing shows its voltage and amperage so you can check your circuit before you order.
Where should I put the chiller?
Chillers need airflow, so leave open space around the vents and avoid closets or tight cabinets. Set the chiller on a level surface close to the tub to keep hose runs short, and shade outdoor units from strong afternoon sun where you can.
How do I maintain a chiller?
Clean or replace the filter regularly, keep the water sanitized and check hoses and fittings for leaks. Rinse dust off the condenser fins a few times a year. In freezing climates, follow the maker's winterizing steps, since water left inside a chiller can freeze and damage it.
