How to choose a steam shower generator

1. Size the generator

Generator size depends on the shower's volume and materials. Stone, tile and glass absorb more heat, and exterior walls or high ceilings need more capacity. Use our steam generator size calculator.

2. Pro Series I, II or III

The Pro Series steps up in features and capacity range. Compare them on each product page and read types of steam generators.

3. Generator or full package

A package bundles the generator with a control (SignaTouch or ThermaTouch) and extras such as a digital valve, lighting or sound, so the parts are matched.

4. Installation

  • A fully enclosed, vapor-proof shower with a sloped ceiling and sealed door.
  • A dedicated electrical circuit and a licensed electrician.
  • A plumber for the water supply and steam head.

Steam Shower Generators & Packages FAQ

What size steam generator do I need?

Size depends on the shower's cubic feet, ceiling height and wall materials. Natural stone, tile over concrete and large glass panels absorb more heat, so they need more output than a basic tiled enclosure. Our ThermaSol generators run from 6 to 24 kW, and our steam generator size calculator gives a starting point.

What does a steam shower need?

A fully enclosed, vapor-tight shower with a door and panel that close to the ceiling, a sloped ceiling so condensation runs off, waterproofed walls and a floor drain. The generator needs a water supply, a drain line and a dedicated electrical circuit, and it sits outside the shower within the maker's distance limit.

Generator only or a full package?

A generator on its own makes the steam. A wellness package adds the control, steamhead and extras such as lighting, aromatherapy or a digital valve, depending on the package. Each package listing spells out what is included, so compare contents side by side before you choose.

Who installs a steam shower generator?

Plan for a licensed plumber and a licensed electrician. The plumber connects the water and drain lines, and the electrician runs the dedicated circuit that the generator's kW rating calls for. Many buyers schedule this with their contractor or tile installer during a bathroom remodel.

How do I maintain a steam generator?

Drain the generator as the manual directs to limit mineral buildup, and descale more often if you have hard water. Wipe down glass and tile after sessions so they dry, keep the steamhead clear, and follow ThermaSol's service schedule for the model you own.
