The CDC recommends a free chlorine concentration of at least 3 ppm in hot tubs and a pH of 7.0 to 7.8, and that is the closest published standard to a home plunge tub. How this calculator works
The math is straightforward. One part per million equals one milligram of active sanitizer per liter of water. The tool converts your gallons to liters, multiplies by your target ppm to get the milligrams of active ingredient you need, then divides by the strength and density of the product you are actually pouring. How to add chemicals to a cold plunge safely
Pre-dilute liquids in a bucket of tub water before pouring, and pour into a running circulation stream so the dose spreads instead of sitting on one panel. Concentrated peroxide above 12 percent is a corrosive chemical: wear nitrile gloves and eye protection, keep it off wood and stainless finishes, and store it away from heat and light. Never mix chlorine and peroxide in the same fill, because they cancel each other out and leave you with neither.
Test before every session, not once a week. A DPD test kit reads more accurately than strips, and the CDC recommends testing chlorine and pH at least twice a day on shared water.
