The Harvia Cauldron 80 L (WP800) is a wood-burning water heater that warms 80 liters, about 21 US gallons, of water for washing in and around the sauna. It is the larger sibling of the Cauldron 50 and suits a traditional cottage or lakeside-style sauna, including cabins without electricity or running hot water.

Build

The black-painted cauldron has a stainless steel inner cauldron that lifts out for cleaning and chimney sweeping. Traditional vermiculite insulation keeps the outer surface cooler, and the replaceable fire chamber directs the heat straight under the inner cauldron so the water warms efficiently. Three adjustable legs let you level it on the floor.

What you need to know before buying

• The cauldron is its own wood-burning appliance and needs its own flue connection, chimney and clearances. Check permits and local fire and building codes, and have a qualified installer set it up to the Harvia instructions.
• If it sits within 250 mm (about 10 in) of a wood stove, Harvia requires a non-flammable protective sheath between them.
• The chimney and the damper are not included. Harvia recommends closing the damper after the fire burns out to keep the water warm longer.
• Never heat it empty, leave a few centimeters below the rim to avoid boiling over, and do not let water freeze in it. Use clean household-quality water.
