Huum Drop wall-mount electric sauna heater with stones in a stainless steel wire cage

Which Huum Sauna Heater Should You Buy?

Choose the Huum Drop if you want a wall-mounted electric heater on a 240V circuit and your sauna is up to 530 cubic feet. Choose a Hive wood-burning stove if you want a real fire and your room is 283 to 635 cubic feet. We carry one electric Huum model, the Drop, and five wood stoves. Match the output to your room volume first.

Every model is listed in our sauna heaters collection, and the numbers below come straight from each product page. If you are comparing brands, our Harvia sauna heaters compared guide covers the other electric lineup we carry.

Step one: measure your sauna in cubic feet

Multiply the inside length, width and height of the sauna in feet. A room 6 feet by 8 feet with a 7 foot ceiling is 336 cubic feet. Every Huum listing gives a room-size range, so that number points you to the right output. Glass walls, uninsulated surfaces and a large door lose heat, so if your room has a lot of glass, read the ranges conservatively and ask us before ordering. Our sauna heater sizing guide goes deeper.

Huum Drop: the electric choice

The Drop is a wall-mounted electric heater with a rounded, stone-clad shape. The listing says the stones wrap the element on all sides, so heat radiates evenly, and that it holds 122 lb of stones, which gives you room to ladle water for softer steam. The body is stainless steel, it is SGS listed, and WiFi control is available as an option so you can preheat before you arrive.

It comes in four sizes: 4.5 kW for rooms up to 247 cubic feet, 6 kW up to 353, 7.5 kW up to 424 and 9 kW up to 530. It needs 240V power, so plan a dedicated circuit with a licensed electrician. Our sauna electrical requirements guide explains the panel and breaker questions. The Drop is the better fit when you want simple electric heat on a schedule and have a 240V circuit available. Huum Hive wood stoves: choosing by room size and loading style

The Hive stoves are wood-burning stoves built in Estonia. The listings describe a stone-clad body that radiates heat from every surface, and a furnace that moves heat through the stone mass. They are a different experience from electric: you build a fire, you tend it, and the heat and steam feel different. Read each product page for clearances, chimney needs and installation details, and follow your local code.

  • Hive Flow Mini and Mini LS (8.5 kW, up to 494 cu ft): for smaller rooms where a full-size stove would put out too much heat. The Mini has a pull-out ash drawer. The LS version adds a firebox extension so you load wood from the adjoining room.
  • Hive Flow and Flow LS (9.8 kW, up to 635 cu ft): the larger of the two lines. The Flow LS holds 330 lb of stones and meets the German BImSchV emissions standard, as does the Flow.
  • Hive Wood LS 17 (17 kW, 283 to 565 cu ft): the highest output of the group, with a tempered glass firebox door and 287 lb of stones.

The LS versions keep wood, bark and ash out of the sauna because you load from outside the room. If that appeals to you, choose an LS model. Our wood-burning sauna stoves collection lets you compare other brands.

Stones, steam and heat that lasts

Stone mass is the spec that most affects how the heat feels. More stones hold heat after power or fire drops and let you throw more water before the stones cool. On our listings the Drop holds 122 lb, the Hive Flow Mini LS 231 lb, the Hive Wood LS 17 287 lb and the Hive Flow LS 330 lb. If you like frequent, generous steam, lean toward the models with more stone. If you mostly want steady dry heat on a timer, output and room size matter more than stone weight. Our sauna stones guide explains stone types and loading.

Electric or wood: which fits you?

  • Pick the Drop if you want easy starts, an optional WiFi module and a wall-mounted heater, and you can run a 240V circuit.
  • Pick a Hive stove if you want a wood fire, you have a safe place for a chimney and wood storage, and you accept the tending that comes with it.
  • Our guide on electric or wood-burning sauna walks through that decision in depth.

What to check before you order

  • Room volume in cubic feet against the listed range.
  • For the Drop, a 240V circuit and an electrician. For a Hive, a chimney plan and clearances to combustibles per the manual.
  • The stone package and what is included on the product page.
  • Ordering lead times and shipping details on the product page, since they can differ by item.

Saunas are for relaxation and comfort. If you have a health condition, take medication or are pregnant, ask your doctor before using one. Shop Pay Installments may be offered at checkout for eligible orders.
